I’m a fishing fanatic who has been practicing the sport for 20+ years now, since the age of 4. For the last 5 years, I have only been fishing for predator fish with lures.

I moved to Denmark in 2021, which turned out to be an awesome decision. The local waters here offer incredible diversity, and catch-and-release is widely practiced which is a key factor in the exceptional fishing conditions. As I’ve been living in Denmark since 2015, the country and the culture play a big part in my life. Started my fishing career at age 6 with feeder and float fishing, and then carp fishing developed from it. 2017 was the year when I started chasing carp in Denmark. It’s as exciting as it can get! Most waters are natural and left alone, so you never know if it’s a 5 kg fish or a 20+ kg Danish record on your hook, and if you ask me, that’s a buzz!

The country offers a huge variety of lakes and rivers where every angler can find their preferences, from lakes in the middle of the forest to the central urban locations. Catch-and-release is a big part of the carp society, which makes the waters good and challenging.

We are based in Aarhus, Jutland region of Denmark

Aarhus is Denmark’s second-largest, and Jutland’s largest city, with dozens of incredible fishing waters around the area!

What kind of fishing licenses do I need to fish in Denmark?

If you would like to fish on the sea, or free public lakes, the Danish national angling license is what you need, that can be bought at www.fisketegn.dk.

Prices for national angling license in Denmark:

Day pass: DKK 46

Weekly card: DKK 150

Yearly card: DKK 214

Can I fish on all lakes and streams in Denmark, with just a national angling license?

No, certain lakes and streams require you to have permission from the landowner or an additional license, that you should get from a fishing union, through fiskekort.dk.

How do I know which waters require a national angling license or an additinal union license?

You can get informed about fishing waters and necessary licenses on fishingindenmark.info.

Do I need to buy my own fishing licenses?

We can get your licenses if you want to join us, but if you want to, of course, you can also take care of that. We just need to get in touch to find out which Danish fishing experience is the most suitable for you.

Can I fish with barbed hooks on a guided trip?

Fishing with us means that you also want to minimize the impact of fishing on nature.

We strongly encourage the use of barbless hooks when lure fishing. In the case of treble hooks, all barbs should be removed for safety purposes, as people may stand close to each other. Getting hooked with a barbed hook will usually mean the end of the fishing trip and a road to the doctor.

Fishing for carp and bream can be done with micro-barbed hooks. Fishing for perch with jigs can also be done with barbs on lakes that allow barbs. However, fishing for brown trout or fishing for pike with treble hooks should be done with barbless hooks or crimped barbs.

If you are in doubt, just ask us. And don’t worry, you won’t lose your trophy fish because of the absence of barbs. All of Balage’s trophy fish were caught with barbless hooks 😉
